Emergency Air Ambulance

When comparing air ambulance services, look for a clearly defined plan for the patient, flight and handovers. Ask MEK JET to explain the proposed arrangements for your request. Medical suitability, aircraft availability and the service scope need individual confirmation.

A check for your particular itinerary

Accurate information matters alongside speed in an urgent air ambulance request. Align the relative’s enquiry with current information from the sending healthcare team. Request a list of outstanding documents, acceptance or transport confirmations, who follows them up and the conditions attached to the proposed departure time.

Prepare for the initial conversation

  • The patient’s current hospital, city and department contact.
  • The intended receiving facility and the status of acceptance.
  • The requested date, companion numbers and ground ambulance needs.
  • Recent medical information requested by the coordinator; first ask for an appropriate document-transfer channel.

Ask who will coordinate the transfer, which aircraft operator and medical team are proposed, and how the treating and receiving facilities will communicate. Confirm a contact for updates before departure and for any changes to the plan.

Clarify the hospital handover plan

  • Confirm the receiving unit and the contact coordinating the handover at the destination hospital.
  • Ask separately about planned times for hospital discharge, the airport meeting and arrival at the receiving hospital; identify the local time zone for international transfers.
  • Clarify who will notify the sending hospital, ground ambulance teams and receiving unit if the programme changes. Ask the coordinator who is authorised to receive medical documents and how receipt will be confirmed.

Ask who will assess fitness to travel and which medical personnel and equipment are proposed for this patient. A general description of an air ambulance does not establish that all medical needs can be accommodated. Clarify arrangements for an accompanying traveller and any limits that apply.

Compare the options and complete service scope

A dedicated air ambulance and medical escort on a commercial flight are different services. Ask the relevant medical and operational teams which options can be assessed. Check separate inclusions and exclusions for flight, medical team, equipment, ground ambulances, waiting and handover coordination. Obtain payment and change terms in writing.

Check the departure and arrival airports, ground ambulance connections and receiving-facility acceptance. Ask who is arranging each stage and how the handovers will work. For international travel, confirm the required documents and any permissions that remain outstanding.

Frequently asked questions

Can a companion travel on the same aircraft?

Passenger numbers, cabin capacity and the team and equipment needed for the patient are assessed together. Companion seating requires separate confirmation.

Is the requested date a confirmed departure?

An enquiry starts an assessment. The requested time is not a confirmed programme before medical, hospital and operational arrangements are clarified.

Discuss your request with MEK JET

Request a written quote showing the proposed timing, included medical and ground support, and change or cancellation terms. Departure remains subject to the confirmed medical and operational arrangements; an enquiry is not a promise of immediate transport.

Before sending medical records, ask the coordinator for an appropriate document-transfer method. Contact MEK JET to discuss the transfer requirements or review our medical team and operations guide.

If someone needs immediate emergency care, contact local emergency services. A website enquiry cannot replace emergency medical assistance.
